Papaya Cubaris murina isopods are a striking and hardy tropical species, prized by collectors and hobbyists for their unique appearance and engaging behaviour. Their subtle colouring and active nature make them an excellent choice for those looking to build or expand a terrestrial isopod collection.

These isopods thrive in a humid, well-ventilated enclosure with a stable environment. A moisture gradient is essential, allowing them to choose between damp and slightly drier areas. Ideal temperatures range between 20–26°C, with consistent humidity maintained through regular light misting. Good airflow is important to prevent excess moisture buildup.

A natural substrate mix such as coconut fibre, soil, and leaf litter works best, providing both shelter and enrichment. Cork bark, hides, and scattered leaves will encourage natural behaviours like burrowing and clustering. Feeding is simple and varied—offer a mix of decaying plant matter, leaf litter, and occasional supplemental foods such as calcium sources and protein-based invertebrate diets.

Easy to care for once established, Cubaris murina “Papaya” is well-suited to both beginners and experienced keepers. With stable conditions and basic maintenance, they will breed readily, forming a self-sustaining colony that’s rewarding to observe and maintain over time.
